VW's New W12

At the Vienna Motor Symposium, Volkswagen showcased some of their latest engines. Among them, we discovered their new W12, which will be installed in some of their most prestigious vehicles.

Displacing 6 litres, the powerplant is technically advanced. Using Audi’s FSI direct injection, Bentley’s TMPI multipoint injection and a pair of turbochargers, this W12 will develop more than 600 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque in certain applications. VW states that this will be the most frugal 12-cylinder engine on the market… which, admittedly, doesn’t mean a lot.

This morning, Volkswagen added some precision to their press release, announcing in which vehicles this engine will be found.

The first to be available will be Bentley’s first SUV, the Bentayga. Later, the Audi A8 and the Bentley Flying Spur and Continental will also benefit from the new engine.

The manufacturer also announced that this W12 will be used in a high-performance application since it was designed to run on a track… we can’t wait to see what they have planned.
