Dodge Proves That Its Charger Hellcat Is The Fastest
When we sat behind the wheel of the Dodge Challenger Hellcat (and its four-door sibling, the Charger) we immediately knew that this triumph of American performance engineering was fast; with 707 horsepower under the hood, pretty much anything can go fast, even a full-size sedan. However, the manufacturer’s boastings about the Charger’s top speed left me skeptic: yes, the Hellcat has enough torque to slow down the Earth’s rotation if it launches in the wrong direction, but when your competition is the Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide (not to mention the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63), you better back up your claims with some serious proof.
Dodge decided to do just that: in the above video, you can see a Charger Hellcat prototype run around a 13 kilometre oval track. According to the manufacturer, the car is identical to one you can buy in a dealership, and even its Pirelli tires are the ones found on the customer-grade Charger Hellcat.
The results? Dodge proved what it boasted about: with a top speed of 206.9 mph (332.97 km/h) with the wind behind its back and 202.2 mph (325.41 km/h) going the other way, the Charger Hellcat confirmed that it was, indeed, the fastest production sedan with a combined average of 204.5 mph (329.11 km/h).
As a reminder, this sinister sedan can be yours for only $64,695, a real bargain if you take its performance into account.
