A Recall For Volkswagen
Volkswagen recently announced a recall for almost 500,000 of their vehicles.
On 2011-2013 Jettas (and Beetles made during the same time period), one of the rear trailing arms could be damaged over the course of a few years. In conditions where rust can build up on it (like in Canada, or anywhere where there is salt on the roads), the arm could eventually break, which could cause the driver to lose control if they aren't vigilant. If the car was previously involved in a rear-end collision, the risk of damage is even higher.
The manufacturer will communicate with their customers shortly, and will install a small plate that will prevent the aforementioned loss of control. Later (when they have found a more permanent solution), they will send another round of recall letters to affected Jetta and Beetle owners to actually replace the part.
