Mercedes-AMG Wins 2014 Formula 1 Season
The 2014 Formula 1 season will go down in history as being under the sign of the tri-pointed star: from the first race, it was clear that Mercedes-AMG was dominant. Their cars were not only faster, they were also more reliable, a notable achievement since this year a rule change forced the engine suppliers to develop new engines from scratch.
Unsurprisingly, Mercedes-AMG then went on to win the Manufacturer’s Championship. Their two drivers finished 11 of the races in first and second position, which firmly placed the manufacturer in the lead. Even better, since the racing calendar now has 19 races (with the addition of Abu Dhabi), the German team was able to score more victories in a single season than anyone else, with their 16 wins beating a record set by McLaren in 1988.

The real fight was between the team’s two drivers (Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton). At the start of the very last race, Hamilton was leading on the scoreboard, but if his teammate won, he had a chance of winning the championship (because of a new double-points system for the last race that created quite a stir in the F1 world). However, on the 24th lap, Rosberg’s car had some electrical problems, and he couldn’t keep up pace. Hamilton went on to cross the finish line in 1st place, becoming the 2014 World Drivers' Champion in the process. He is now a double champion, having won in 2008 while driving for McLaren.
This wraps up another Formula 1 season, and the teams are already hard at work on their cars for next year. Mercedes-AMG will have to work especially hard if they want to have a shot at winning back-to-back championships next year!
