Ford’s Mustang On The World’s Tallest Building… Again
In 1964, Ford made a marketing home-run by perching a brand-new Mustang on the world’s tallest structure, the Empire State Building. To do it, the car (a convertible) was stripped of its mechanical components and then split into pieces small enough to fit in the elevator. It was then re-assembled in the night, before the building’s opening.
For the 2015 unveil of the now-famous pony car Ford repeated the stunt, this time taking a yellow convertible GT and putting it through the same process. And they decided to do it a third time to mark the arrival of Ford in the African/Middle Eastern market. For this occasion, they took their now dismantled yellow convertible and hauled it to the top of the world’s tallest man-made structure, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which stands at 830 metres.
Displayed on the Burj Khalifa’s 112th level, the yellow Mustang is a testament to Ford’s interest in the Middle Eastern market, which is in constant expansion: before 2016, the manufacturer will launch around 25 new models in the region. They also hope to sell around 5.5 million cars annually in this market before 2020.
