Honda FCV Concept: Hydrogen, The Honda Way
Nearly at the same time as Toyota unveiled their production-ready Mirai, Honda presented its FCV Concept, another fuel-cell vehicle.
Under its new skin, the vehicle is basically a new-and-improved version of the FCEV concept that was seen in Los Angeles last year. According to Honda, the new version is up to 60% more efficient than the last concept. With a new-generation fuel cell, the FCV Concept boasts a range of 700 km. Once depleted, the fuel-cell can be refilled in 3 minutes.
The other interesting part of this vehicle is the Honda Power Exporter. Without getting too technical, it is basically a big battery that can recharge itself using the FCV Concept, turning the car into a big generator that can provide power in emergency situations.
The FCV Concept is actually very close to production: Honda hopes to launch the car in Japan in March 2016. The Japanese infrastructure for hydrogen-powered cars is much better than ours is here, which explains this decision.
