Lamborghini’s Newest Concept: The Asterion
The Paris Auto Show is now underway, and one of the first reveals to happen was the Lamborghini Asterion, which was teased a few days ago with a cryptic black and white shot.
It is now official, Lamborghini’s new poster child is a hybrid called the Asterion LPI 910-4. The brand’s purists are probably already fixing themselves a stiff drink, but the news is not as bad as it sounds: it still packs 910 horsepower, and it can run from 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds flat.
The Asterion was built on the Aventador's chassis, but it uses the V10 from the Huracán to drive its rear wheels. In the center tunnel, where the driveshaft normally used to spin the front differential would be, there is now a large pack of batteries used to drive three electric motors (one in the transmission and one for each front wheel). The LPI 910-4 can drive up to 125 km/h on electric power alone.
The styling is typically Lamborghini: sharp angles and a stealth plane look. However, the shape of the car and the overall finished product make us think that it might be more than a concept… If Lamborghini decides to build this car, there is a distinct possibility that it may be able to compete at the highest level.
