Here Is The Mercedes-AMG GT
After the Mercedes-Benz SLS went away, the manufacturer was without a proper sports car in its lineup. Sure, there were AMG versions of the E,C and S-Class, but nothing that could go up against the Porsche 911, BMW Z4 and Jaguar F-Type.
We were eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the Mercedes-AMG GT, a sport coupe that, while not exactly replacing the SLS, will still be a world-beating sport car, capable of reminding the competition that the Silver Arrow's spirit still lives on!
The launch of this car was just a few hours ago, and we now have more information about this gorgeous coupe.
First of all, let's take a moment to look a it. While the inspiration from the SLS is obvious, we can also easily see Mercedes' new design language in the new vehicle. The whole body is curvaceous, and the roof has been stretched if you compare it to the SLS.
Under the sleek hood, two flavors of the same engine will be available: on the GT model, the twin-turbo 4 litre V8 will develop 462 horsepower, which will be enough to propel the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 4 seconds flat. In the GTS, the same engine has been tweaked to produce 510 fire-breathing ponies, giving it a .2 second advantage in the 0-100 run. This is an all-new engine for AMG, and it is filled with new technologies. For example, the two turbos are situated between the cylinder's V formation (as opposed to being on each side of the block). This allows for a much more compact drivetrain.
All of the manufacturer's other technologies are used in this car, from the AMG adjustable suspension to the active motor mounts to the COMAND infotainment system. Since it is an AMG, it is equipped with exhaust bypass valves, to ensure a sound powerful enough to wake the dead!
Pricing will be announced in October, but Mercedes has made it adamantly clear that they were targeting the Porsche 911 with this new contender, so expect prices to be in the same ballpark as Stuttgart's finest.
