Morgan SP1: A Unique Car For A Unique Customer
Morgan has been building some unique vehicles since 1910 (and naysayers will tell you that they haven’t updated their styling since the fifties). Their original vehicle, a three-wheeler with a motorcycle engine stuck in the front is still in production today. They have also been making roadsters for the last 70 years. However, while all the other manufacturers compete to be at the forefront of technological advancement, this little English carmaker (by the way, they are the oldest independent car builder in Great Britain) still builds their cars by hand, and even uses wood for the chassis!
To celebrate the creation of the Special Projects division, Morgan just unveiled the very first car built by this team: the SP1. It is a unique car developed for a rich, anonymous buyer.

The chassis is made out of ash, just like it has been for the last century. However, the customer also wanted to add some African Bubinga wood, since it comes from the continent where he made his fortune. The bodywork is made of aluminium, and hand-rolled on an English wheel by an artisan.
Every part of the cockpit that can be touched by a passenger is covered in leather, while the rest is made of ash.
Under the impressive and unique bodywork sits a very ordinary 3.7 litre Ford V6. But, since the car doesn’t weigh a lot, performance should be interesting!
