The Mercedes-Benz G65 AMG Is Coming To North America
If you like outrageously poor fuel economy, steep MSRPs and driving around in a vehicle with the handling of an aircraft carrier, you will be thrilled that the legendary Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen will now be offered with an engine even less suited to the real world!
For 2016, Mercedes-Benz will bring another version of its G-Class SUV to North America: the G65 AMG. As per standard AMG nomenclature, this means that this truck will be fitted with the twin-turbo V12 producing 612 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque. All this power enables the G65 to scoot from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 230 km/h. This is not much faster than the plebeian G63 AMG, which can do 0-100 in 5.4 seconds on its way to an electronically-limited top speed of 210 km/h, thanks to its 544 horsepower V8. Even worse, the G65 (which is already sold in Europe) is not exactly frugal: in city driving, it can’t manage to do any better than 22.7 L/100 km…

And finally, the big SUV won’t be cheap: Mercedes-Benz mentioned a price of over $250,000 (while the G63 starts at $150,000), but in Germany, this AMG retails for more like $350,000…
