The Corvette Z06 Gained A Few Pounds
In the last few decades, the majority of cars have followed the same trend as their owners: they packed on a few extra kilos. With the safety laws getting stricter each year, engineers didn’t have any choice but to add steel in a few critical places to make sure their cars met the latest safety norms. However, the use of lightweight materials such as aluminium and carbon fiber have recently started to reverse the trend. The recent leak of the new Corvette Z06 spec sheets has however revealed a few interesting bits: it would seem that the next Z06 will be 158 kg heavier than the last one. Considering that the car makes massive use of lightweight pieces, it is hard to see where these few extra kilos come from.
Even the ultimate last generation Corvette, the C6 ZR1, with its supercharged engine, was 87 kilos lighter.

However, we know that even with the increased weight, the 650 HP Corvette will be faster than the outgoing Z06. It will be interesting to drive them back-to-back to see just how much of a difference 87 kilos can make!
