Audi uses Long-Distance Technical Assistance for its Mechanics
Audi has just unveiled a new technical assistance tool for its mechanics that could shorten repair times and help the manufacturer see if they have made any recurring errors.
One of the biggest time-wasters for mechanics is unexpected problems. Even with very thorough training, they sometimes face problems they can’t solve themselves. Enter ART (Audi Robotic Telepresence). This clever little invention can allow mechanics and expert-technicians based in the Audi USA office to talk together and solve problems in real-time.
ART is a motorized pole with a camera on top and a screen to allow mechanics to see the technician. The robot can be remotely controlled to move around a car, and it is equipped with a borescope to allow a better view in hard-to-reach spots. The whole system is wireless, and can be accessed via Wifi.
The system has been tested in 15 dealerships, but Audi hopes to get ART in a hundred of their service points before the end of the year.
