The Doge Completes its First Race Around Talladega
Last weekend, the first crowdfunded NASCAR was lining up on the starting grid for the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway, in Alabama. After running in the front pack for a while, it sadly fell back, and finished the race in 20th position.
It was a very special weekend for Reddit’s users. The car they paid for with their Doges (one of the most popular cryptocurrencies) was finally racing. Driven by Josh Wise, it was also decorated with images of the Dogecoin’s Mascot, the Doge himself. The design itself was also crowd-sourced, since people had the chance to vote for their favorite one on Reddit.com.
On the 137th lap, Josh managed to avoid a major crash claiming 14 cars. This placed him near the pole position. He then put on a good fight, but couldn’t hold on to this place, and ended the race in the 20th position. Of the 43 cars that started the race, 28 finished.
Even with the final results, the Dogecoin’s administrators said they were very satisfied with the result. Their cryptocurrency received a lot of attention from major media, and they expect a lot of business in the coming days. According to them, very few minor teams (those not sponsored by a major sponsor, like Lowe’s, KFC, GoDaddy…) had as much coverage during the race.
Josh Wise was also happy, saying he was glad to have had the opportunity to race at Talladega.
