Even BMW has to Recall Cars
Another fresh recall has just hit the market this morning. It targets 156,137 BMW vehicles in North America, built between 2010 and 2012.
Specifically, the exact cars concerned are those equipped with the 3.0L N55 six-cylinder engine: 2010-2012 1 Series, 2010-2012 3 Series, 2010-2012 5 Series, 2010-2012 5 Series Gran Turismo, 2010-2012 6 Series, 2010-2012 X3, 2010-2012 X5, 2010-2012 X6 and 2010-2012 Z4.
The recall started on Chinese-built models, only to be later expanded to those produced worldwide. Overall, nearly half a million units will have to be repaired, all over the globe.
On the 6 cylinder engine, a bolt supporting the variable cam unit (VANOS) can loosen over time, or in some extreme cases break. Even if the car can still drive, the onboard computer will limit power for safety. If the driver then keeps using the vehicle, the damage can become much more severe.
If you own a car that is affected by this recall, BMW urges you to contact your dealer to schedule an appointment for the replacement of this bolt.
