Massive Graco Child Seat Recall

Graco is in hot water these days after having to recall 3.8 million child seats for defective harnesses that occasionally didn’t open and trapped children in their seats. If food or beverages became lodged in the buckle, over time it could stop working, forcing parents to cut the harness to free the child.

The company just added an additional 403,222 seats to the recall but the American National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) wants an additional 1.8 million added. Graco declined because those models are for infants who don’t eat or drink at that age.

“Graco SnugRide infant car seats are excluded from this recall because they are uniquely designed to detach from their base for quick release if needed”, the company said in a statement.

Graco will, however, replace the SnugRide buckles if parents request. The recall affects the following models:

Toddler Convertible Car Seats: Cozy Cline, Comfort Sport, Classic Ride 50, My Ride 65, My Ride 70, My Ride 65 with Safety Surround, Size4Me 70, My Size 70, Head Wise 70, Smart Seat, Argos 70 Elite, Ready Ride, Step 2, Nautilus Plus, and Smart Seat with Safety Surround.

Harnessed Booster Seats: Nautilus 3-in-1, Nautilus Elite and Argos.
