A Petition to Bring the Honda Civic Type R to North America

Honda launched the Civic Type R concept in Geneva earlier this year. Equipped with a 2.0 L turbo 4 cylinder pumping out 280 horsepower, it promises to be a handful to drive around. It also looks fantastic, with an aggressive bodykit and a huge wing on its hatch. It will be the perfect sports car flagship for Honda, which has lacked a dynamic vehicle since the S2000 went away. The only problem? The Type R will not be available in North America.

Nikos Stoufis decided he wanted to convince Honda to bring the hot hatch here by launching a petition on Change.org. It is named Bring the 2015 Civic Type R VTEC Turbo To North America, and it seeks to gather enough names to convince Honda’s administrators that the Type-R would sell well here. The last Type-R sold here was the Integra, and it is still regarded today as one of the best handling front-wheel drive cars ever made.

The petition caught the ears of Honda when it hit 5000 signatures. A public relation agent for Honda North America confirmed that the petition would be sent to the directors. There are now more than 9000 signatures on the petition and numbers are still climbing.

So if you want to see a red Honda badge on the grille of a small hatchback, and hear once more the mechanical roar of a VTEC engine, take a minute and sign this petition!
