When Siri Meets Enzo: The Future of Infotainment
In Geneva this week, if you walk into the Ferrari booth you can sit in a grey FF and play with the infotainment system. Nothing particularly groundbreaking here, but there is a twist: this system is developed by Apple; it is named CarPlay and may very well soon be in a car near you.
Designed to offer Apple users a familiar interface in their vehicle, CarPlay will connect to the owner’s iPhone at the touch of a button, and allow access to all the compatible apps on the smartphone. This includes the phone (obviously), text messaging, emails, music, GPS and many more. The overall layout of the system will be familiar to iOS users, and Siri will be available to hear all your vocal commands.
Ferrari will be the first to launch CarPlay, but the system will eventually be available on a lot of models all over the market, from brands like Volvo, Mercedes-Benz BMW, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, Kia, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Citroën, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota.
