2014 BMW M3/M4 Specs Revealed
The long awaited specs for the next generation BMW M3 and M4 have been released. BMW fans have been anxiously awaiting details on what would power the vehicle with many rumors swirling around about a possible V6 with no manual transmission option.
BMW president Ludwig Willisch confirmed to Bimmerpost.com that the M3/M4 will both have twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engines and will indeed come with a standard 6-speed manual transmission. Power output will be approximately 430 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque with a redline of over 7500 RPM.
There is even more good news. Weight savings will be significant in the new model which will come in at under 3306 lbs (1500 kg). This is less than the previous generation by about 300 lbs and significantly less than the Audi RS5’s 4000 lbs or the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG’s 3900 lbs.
To achieve this weight savings, carbon fiber is used in many parts of the construction including the drive shaft, roof, trunk (M4 only) and strut brace.
The production M3 and M4 will be introduced together at the Detroit NAIAS in January 2014.
