Grand Theft Auto V Breaks All Records

Grand Theft Auto V, the latest edition of the Grand Theft Auto video game series, was released Tuesday and has already shattered sales records by earning US$800 million in the first 24h.  The previous record holder was Call of Duty: Black Ops II which earned US $500 million in its first day. That’s around 10 or 12 million copies of the game.

The game is the fifteenth title in the Grand Theft Auto series, and the first main release since Grand Theft Auto IV in 2008.

Playing from a third-person perspective, it combines driving and action gameplay allowing the player to interact with the world at their leisure. The setting is the fictional state of San Andreas (based on Southern California) and the player can freely roam the countryside and the fictional city of Los Santos (based on Los Angeles).

Players can steal anything from a car to a fighter jet to a boat in their quest to complete carious missions. This is a violent game with nudity, prostitution and murder as part of the gameplay which has elicited various condemnations from a number of groups including Amnesty International.
