No AMG Edition of Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class On The Horizon
The Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class won't be getting it's own AMG variant any time soon, at least not according to CarAdvice.com. The website recently posted an interview with the director of AMG vehicle development, Tobias Moers, in which he ruled out the idea of a high horsepower version of the compact crossover vehicle.
With other entry-level vehicles in the Mercedes-Benz getting the AMG treatment, it's only logical to ask whether the GLK might also benefit from the installation of go-fast bits in an effort to tempt performance-hungry buyers. Another, more pointed reason for pummelling AMG with questions about a possible GLK-Class model is lurking on the horizon, however: the upcoming Porsche Macan. The compact Porsche crossover vehicle aims to not just eat the lunch of German luxury rivals in terms of style and passenger comfort, but it will also most likely come with a hefty dose of handling prowess and strong acceleration to boot.
Moers acknowledges that the Macan could be a game-changer for AMG's GLK-Class strategy. The Porsche could also lead to the creation of an M version of the BMW X3, which is currently one of the GLK's biggest rivals. The Audi Q5 compact crossover is unlikely to respond in kind, given the corporate ties between Audi and Porsche.
