Daimler, Ford and Renault-Nissan Join Forces
by The Car Guide
Much like the BMW-Toyota joint effort to develop alternative drivetrains, we now have Daimler (Mercedes-Benz and smart), Ford (USA-Europe) and Renault-Nissan banding together to design fuel cell vehicles (FCVs).
Mercedes-Benz already has a leg up on the game, having already made advancements in developing FCVs.
Even though hybrid and electric vehicles are stealing most of the headlines these days, it seems that fuel cell technology isn’t dead yet – at least, that’s what the agreement between these three automotive giants would suggest.
Their target is to get production FCVs onto the market by 2017 – and to offer them at an affordable price. Fuel cell vehicles run on an electric motor powered by a fuel cell.
