GM Putting Volt on Pause

For all the hullaballoo surrounding the Chevy Volt's launch, you'd think there would be a few more leaving dealership lots... and yet somehow, it's still proven to be a slow seller. Although the first shipments were snapped up by eager consumers, sales of Chevy's much-touted plug-in hybrid haven't exactly fulfilled expectations: GM has a 150-day supply of the shapely hybrid floating around American dealerships currently. 

So, in an effort to quell the excessive Voltage, GM has opted to idle the Volt's production line for five weeks. Resulting in 1,300 employees being put temporarily out of work, the shut-down comes right on the heels of a similarly convenient retooling of the plant that only recently came to an end. However, GM is keeping a cool head about it, and claiming that they're merely building the cars to meet demand, and fully intends to bring the plant back up to operational standards promptly by April 23rd.
