Mitsubishi i-MiEV Receives Government of Canada 2012 ecoENERGY Award

- Most Fuel-Efficient Vehicles Announced for 2012 -

Mitsubishi’s Motors’ zero-emissions electric car  -- the Mitsubishi i-MiEV – is the most fuel-efficient subcompact car sold in Canada, Natural Resources Canada announced this week.

The Honourable Joe Oliver, Minister of Natural Resources, cited Mitsubishi’s industry-leading performance in an announcement recognizing the fuel-efficiency of new vehicles in 10 different classes of automobiles and trucks.

“These manufacturers are developing the latest vehicle technologies to help Canadians reduce their greenhouse gas emissions,” said Minister Oliver.  “The fuel consumption ratings for vehicles provide Canadians with the right tools to help make informed decisions to lower their fuel costs while reducing their environmental impact.

“This is a great honour for the i-MiEV,” said Shin Fujioka, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada Inc. (MMSCAN).  “We think this achievement speaks to what the marketplace needs as people strive to improve our environment and protect our planet’s future.  We are heartened by the government’s findings that the Mitsubishi
i-MiEV is playing a significant environmental role by being the right vehicle for the Canadian marketplace.”

“Mitsubishi’s approach to technology and addressing environmental concerns is paramount,” said Fujioka, “and it is encouraging to see the excitement the i-MiEV has generated for the future of electric vehicles over the past few years.”

The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is a five-door, 4-passenger, subcompact hatchback that has been designed and packaged to be efficient, ecological and fun to drive.  It is the most affordable, mass-produced, all-electric vehicle in the Canadian marketplace, and with a range of 140 kilometers, and a top speed of 130 km/h, i-MiEV makes an excellent commuter vehicle for many Canadians living in urban areas. Thanks to its excellent fuel efficiency rating of 2.1Le/100km (112 MPGe), the i-MiEV has scored first-place honours of “Fuel Economy Leaders: 2012 Model Year” by the EPA annual Fuel Economy Guide in the US.
