2012 Porsche 911: A Canadian Debut in Montreal
After making its world premiere at the Frankfurt International Motor Show and its North American premiere in LA, the seventh inception of the legendary Porsche 911 will make its first appearance on Canadian soil this week at the Montreal International Auto Show.
Timeless beauty
The new Porsche 911 has kept the classic lines that this legendary sports car is known for. However, it does feature a more lithe physique, particularly the soaring roofline.
Also note that this vehicle features an all-new front end and fresh headlights.
It is now 6 cm longer, with 10 cm added to the wheelbase. Both front and rear passengers will appreciate this extra space.
Despite these increases, the vehicle has dropped 35 kg thanks to more extensive use of aluminum in its construction.
Redesigned interior
The passenger compartment has been entirely redesigned and the dashboard is now radically different, resembling those in the Porsche Panamera and Cayenne.
Two new engines
Porsche typically presents its new generations of the 911 by releasing the RWD coupes first – and this is true once again this time.
- Porsche 911: 3.4L 6-cylinder Boxer with 350 hp (+5 hp)
- Porsche 911 S: 3.8L 6-cylinder Boxer with 400 hp (+15 hp)
The two transmissions available are a 7-speed manual gearbox or 7-speed dual-clutch PDK.
The 2012 Porsche 911s feature a new chassis, new suspensions, power steering and more responsive brakes.
It certainly looks promising as the 2012 completed a run of the northern section of Nürburgring in just 7 minutes and 40 seconds. That’s 15 seconds less than the current Porsche 911!
