2012 Fiat 500 Abarth: North American Premier in Los Angeles

Currently, the little Fiat 500 is available in two models and three trims:

-    The Fiat 500 in POP, Sport and Lounge versions
-    The Fiat 500C in POP and Lounge versions

In addition to the hatchback and convertible, a version bearing the “Abarth” signature will be added to the line-up in 2012. With more juice, the Fiat 500 Abarth is actually unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Abarth moniker

The “Abarth” name is to Fiat what "SRT” is the Chrysler, what “AMG” is to Mercedes-Benz, and what “M” is to BMW. In other words, it stands for added power and sportier handling.
As you might expect, the Abarth version of the Fiat 500 is designed to look the part. Its style clearly conveys that this little car means business. In Europe, the Italian-made Abarth 500 is offered as a coupe or convertible.

She’s a bomb!

The North-American version of the Fiat 500 Abarth  is powered by a 1.4 litre four-cylinder turbo engine that delivers 160 hp and 170 lb-pi of torque. Given this number of horses, it’s very likely that the same European engine – modified to meet American emissions standards – is offer in the American-market as Fiat 500 Abarth.

This engine will be paired with either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
