Land Rovers to Lose Weight

Although Land Rover is a great brand producing a variety of stellar vehicles, there is a problem with one of the most iconic brands in the world: bloating. Weighing as much as a few elephants (maybe), they crush down on the weight of the earth with the force of a tectonic plate or two (maybe not), and as a result, fuel mileage suffers.

So, under new management, Land Rover has announced their intention to cut as many as 1,100 pounds from their vehicles over the next 10 years by using new materials and designs. Ironically, the announcement cites such materials as carbon fibre (admittedly high tech) and aluminum as the preferred basic building blocks of future Land Rovers, the latter of which was actually the material that saw the Land Rover’s creation. Having said that, it’s perhaps fitting then that the first vehicle to demonstrate this new approach to Land Rover construction will be the new Defender debuting next year.
