2012 Ford Explorer: 8.7L / 100 km!
After years of talking about its impending arrival, Ford is finally ready to launch their four-cylinder Ecoboost engine, and it’s going to debut under the hood of the brand’s already-popular Explorer SUV.
Having only benefitted from the application of a single engine since its debut (the 3.5L naturally aspirated V6), the Explorer’s new 2.0L turbocharged mill is expected to boost sales of the big seven-seater by virtue of its new class-leading fuel economy figures. Having been tested by the American EPA, the new engine supposedly rewards Explorer drivers with 20 miles per gallon city, 28 miles per gallon highway ratings. That translates into 11.8L/100 km city, and just 8.4L/100 km highway. And the best news of all? Thanks to the engine’s direct injection technology, it will do all this on regular 87 octane fuel.
