Buick Beats out Lexus in American Sales

When it comes to luxury cars, there’s a few different ways you can go. On one hand, you have the scintillating performance offered by brands like BMW and Audi. On the other, the couch-mobile comfort of Buick, Lexus, and Lincoln. Prefer a compromise? Mercedes Benz and Acura have a wide array of options.

But within each category, there are obvious leaders… And within the soft, comfortable, overstuffed-leather-chair segment, Lexus has been absolutely dominant for years. Targeting, and subsequently destroying Buick throughout their early years, Lexus leveraged their unique design ethos with Toyota’s reputation for reliability to gain a significant foothold in the North American market that many thought was impregnable. Apparently they were wrong.

Because according to February’s sales figures, Buick’s running away with the show, taking the sales crown from Lexus for the first time in what many Buick driver’s would call “a coon’s age.” In fact, not just beating out Lexus, Buick’s sales have topped those of Audi, Acura, and Mercedes Benz, leaving BMW as the only luxury brand to retain a sales lead over the American re-upstart. Even more impressive still is the fact that Buick’s done it with just four models on showroom floors.
