2016 Kia Sportage: We're Driving It This Week
Kia’s compact crossover will receive a full redesign for the 2017 model year, and will make its global debut at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show on September 15th.
However, The Car Guide will be heading down to California this week to take a closer look at the new Sportage while it’s in the final stages of its development. We’ll be offered a guided tour of the Kia Proving Grounds, including its track layout and weathering facility, and if we behave, we might just get the chance to get behind the wheel of the brand-new Sportage.

From there, we’ll be travelling southeast to Nevada in order to visit Kia’s technical workshop, where the company will show us how they perform hot-weather and quality development on the new crossover. Finally, we’ll proceed back down to Furnace Creek in California, near another Kia facility called the Badwater test site. Sounds like a good place to test the vehicle’s door seals and underbody protection.
Full coverage of all this exhaustive testing will soon be published, when the 2017 Kia Sportage is officially unveiled in Frankfurt. Until then, we’ll certainly share some juicy details about this new generation. We can already confirm it will once again share its platform and powertrains with the new-for-2016 Hyundai Tucson.
